Mansilla de Mulas
Today we start the hike at El Burgo Ranero and arrive at the Village of Mansilla de Mulas. The terrain is mostly flat along the hiking trail. Mansilla de Mulas is one of my favorite villages of the Camino. Maybe it is the municipal Albergue. Mansilla is a small clean village close to Leon and close to Asturias. The river Esla from Asturias crosses the village and a good place to dip your feet in the cold water. This village had a Jewish population during the middle ages. The streets zig zag which is a feature of Jewish villages. Mansilla has a good town museum. The village has some fortification walls. The old municipal albergue had a full kitchen & washing facilities & was well maintained. It is now demolished. It was replaced 2024 with a provisional albergue at the outer portion of town located at Avenida Picos de Europa. It has 28 beds and is open the full year with a 7 euro daily charge. The town has restaurants, supermarkets & the Alsa bus station. The hike to Leon is fairly flat.
