Grañon / Belorado
< San Juan de Ortega / Santo Domingo >
The hike today starts at Santo Domingo de la Calzada and arrives at Belorado. However, there is an interesting alternative to both Santo Domingo and Belorado which is the mystical & medieval village of Grañon. The village of Grañon is 7 kms after Santo Domingo. The albergue is inside a church. If you stay at Grañon you can hike to Belorado or simply walk back early morning to Santo Domingo to catch the bus to Burgos. My preference is to stay at Grañon and skip Belorado and San Juan de Ortega and arrive at Burgos. This allows for an extra 2 days for other villages in the Camino. Nevertheless, the maps for Belorado and San Juan de Ortega are included. Belorado has a good private albergue. The Camino is flexible, so plan your trip well. The pictures are of Grañon. I have been to Belorado several times, and after discovering this albergue inside the church of Grañon, it became my preference. Bus connections are not easy for Grañon so I simply walk back to Santo Domingo if I have to take the bus to Burgos.
Santo Domingo / Grañon / Belorado ~ 7 kms + 16 kms . Terrain is mostly flat. Difficulty 6/10
