Cooler months are mid March through May & mid September through December. The summer months of the Camino are very crowded. These are the hot months to avoid. Castrojeriz is part of Burgos. It is located in the Meseta.
Leon is a major city of Castilla Leon.
Astorga is a village a couple of hiking days from Leon. It is part of the Leon & Castilla – Leon region. Astorga is of Roman times. Astorga is not too far from the border Portugal. It was an important village for the Romans. It marks the start of the Bierzo region and leaves behind the Meseta at Hospital de Orbigo. The altitude is similar to Leon.
El Acebo is a mountain village in the same path as Rabanal del Camino & Ponferrada. El Acebo is at a high altitude. It is part of the Bierzo region. The high snow cap mountain ranges that can be seen towards the south are close to the Portugal border.
Villafranca del Bierzo is an upscale village of the Leon region located on the Camino hiking trail towards O Cebreiro. Villafranca has a microclimate.
O Cebreiro is the 1st village of the Camino in Galicia. It is located at a high altitude in the mountain range of O Cebreiro.
Santiago de Compostela is a large city in Galicia which is the convergence point of the Caminos de Santiago. The Camino France and the Camino Portugal converge at Santiago de Compostela. Weather at Santiago tends to be moderate like St Jean Pied de Port. Both locations are low altitude, coastal locations with humidity. Santiago tends to attract the rain from the Atlantic.
