The hike today begins at San Juan de Ortega and reaches the City of Burgos. Burgos is a large important industrial city. Burgos was an ancient fortress city of medieval times. It has developed into a modern city with an important transportation hub. Renfe train system connects Burgos to Pamplona, to Leon, and other important cities in Spain. The city has a major bus terminal hub that connects Burgos to Madrid, Logroño, Leon and other cities. The Cathedral of Burgos is among the largest in Spain. The Convent of las Huelgas, a museum is a short walk from the historic district. Las Huelgas was built in the 12th Century and still functions as a Monastery and as a National Museum. The albergue accomodations in Burgos are very good. Burgos is a starting point for the meseta. The restaurants and bars are top quality & close to the albergue. The night life is loud.
