< Day # 3 Coastal -Marinhas to Viana do Castelo / Day # 1 Coastal – O Porto to Vila do Conde

Coastal route :

Vila do Conde or 26 kms or Subway to Povoa do Varzim & hike to Marinhas

Distance 29 Kms. Difficulty 6 / 10

Today we start at either Vila do Conde or Povoa de Varzim. We arrive at Marinhas. The trail covers some coastal villages and some that are close to the coast. The villages are Aver o Mar, Aguacadoura, Apulia, Esposende and Marihnas. If you took the subway at O Porto to Povoa de Varzim and continued to Marinhas you saved yourself two days of hiking. There are albergues, hotels & good restaurants along the way.

Important note . If you are in the coastal route and decide to take the interior route or vice versa don’t walk this portion. Take a taxi. The roads are heavily traveled and offer no safety to hikers.

Interior route

Vairao to Barcelos

Distance 28 kms Difficulty 6 / 10

Today we start at Vairao and arrive at Barcelos. The trail is mostly flat with roads and hiking trails. There is some shade cover through some of the forests. The villages are Vilarinho, Arcos, Sao Pedro de Rates, Pereira, Barcelinhos and Barcelos. There are some good albergues at Barcelinhos which is 1 km before Barcelos. There are good local restaurants at Barcelos. The village of Barcelos is medieval.
