Hontanas
The hike today starts in the Village of Hornillos and arrives at the village of Hontanas. The exit out of Hornillos is a slow uphill hike before reaching a level top. The trail is flat before reaching San Bol. San Bol is an empty albergue. There are no restaurants or inhabitants in San Bol. The trail at San Bol is a downhill hike and an uphill hike. Thereafter, the trail continues to Hontanas. It crosses a road intersection and continues a long dirt stretch until Hontanas. The village of Hontanas is not visible from the horizon because it is located below the hilltop. Hontanas is an ancient village. It is of medieval times, but it has Roman ruins. It is a small village with a large church, several albergues and a small hostel. Hontanas is a nice village.
The distance to Hontanas is about 15 kms. It is not a long distance as other hiking days. This is the meseta and your inner self is going through moments of introspection. Several times during my hikes I have walked from Burgos directly to Hontanas. I recommend a stay at Hontanas & must stay at Castrojeriz. This is a short hike day the following day to explore the Village of Castrojeriz and the Roman Castle at the hilltop.
Hornillos to Hontanas is ~15 kms. Hike is fairly flat with some short steep hiking at San Bol. Difficulty 6 /10
