Rabanal del Camino
Today we start the hike at Astorga and arrive at Rabanal del Camino. There are several small villages along the way – Valdeviejas, Santa Colomba de Somoza, El Ganso and finally Rabanal del Camino. Rabanal is a must stop in the mountains . Stay in Rabanal and don’t hike to Foncebadon. The village of Foncebadon is not a good stop. The challenging hike after Rabanal del Camino should be split into 2 days with a stop at El Acebo [another mountain village] before arriving at Ponferrada. Rabanal del Camino is a stone medieval Templar village. The church is Templar and over 1,000 years old& has a daily mass. There are good albergues, good restaurants, 2 small hotels and a Monastery. Rabanal del Camino is one of my preferred villages. A tiny stone village with so much history. Enjoy that fresh air mountain & the village of Rabanal del Camino.
Astorga to Rabanal del Camino ~ 24 kms. Terrain is mostly flat with a gradual 300 meter climb along the path. Altitude is ~ 1,150 meters at Rabanal. Difficulty is 6/10.
