Triacastela
Today we start the hike at O Cebreiro and arrive at the village of Triacastela. When I leave O Cebreiro my preference is to hike along the main highway. There is not much traffic but walk with caution. I remain on the highway until I reach Alto de Poio and from then on I take the dirt hiking trail. There are several small villages on the way which are Linares, Hospital, Padornelo, Fonfria, Viduedo, Pasantes and finally Triacastela. The high point is Alto de Poio at 1,335 mts. Triacastela is downhill all the way after Alto de Poio. The mountain range and hike is spectacular. From this point on, Galicia is mostly flat and level. This is the last high mountain range you will encounter in the Camino Frances. Triacastella has a good municipal albergue with good washing machines at the town entrance and a good gallego restaurant with typical dishes like churrasco at the Complejo Xacobeo. Triacastela is a must stop.
O Cebreiro to Triacastela ~ 24 kms. Downhill after O Cebreiro and uphill to Alto de Poio – 1335 mts, then downhill to Triacastela with a steep descent after Fonfrias into Triacastela. Difficulty 6/10.
