Today we start the hike at Mansilla de Mulas and arrive at Leon. The terrain is fairly flat until the last 1/3 of the journey where a climb reaches the hilltop before Leon. You can view the entire city of Leon from the hilltop. Leon is the queen of villages of Castilla & Leon dating back to Roman times. It was a fortified medieval village. Some fortified walls are still present in Leon. The Cathedral of Leon is an engineering marvel built during the middle ages. Leon is now a large city that stretches beyond the historic district. It is a major transportation hub for Renfe and Alsa and has an airport. Leon has a diversified economy with plenty of tourism, restaurants, bars, hotels, museums, banking, transportation & government services. The Convent albergue is located in the historic district. Leon is a city of night life like Madrid.
