Camino-Muxia – Negreira – Day # 1
< Olveiroa / Santiago de Compostela >
Day 1 Negreira
Distance – 23 kms Difficulty 5 /10
Today we leave Santiago de Compostela and hike to the Village of Negreira. The exit of Santiago is close to the Cathedral and the main plaza. The suburbs of Santiago give way to the small roads, forests and hiking trails. The villages along the way are Carballal, Quintas, Ventosa, Trasmonte, Aguapesada, Ponte Maceira, Barca to Negreira. This trail is off the beaten path. It does not have heavy peregrino hiking. It is rural, agricultural, farming country. There are hiking trails, forests, vegetation, hills and roads. There are several albergues and good local restaurants along the way & also in Negreira. It is not far from the coast so it tends to rain frequently. If you have an extra 4 days, it is a worthwhile trail to round your experience of the Camino. The Celts moved from central Europe to Galicia in the 4th century BC., in search of terrain that had rock & water. They found this in Spain & named it Galicia.
