Roncesvalles Monastery
Today we will start the hike at Valcarlos and arrive at the Monastery of Roncesvalles. The hike is steep. My preference is to follow the highway all the way to Roncesvalles. There is a detour that crosses through the forest, but I prefer the highway. Distance of approximately 18 kms on the road. This hike is one of the more difficult portions of the Camino, but one of the most scenic which is why I split the hike in 2 days. First, most pilgrims are out of shape. Second, you are carrying a backpack with additional weight. Third, no need to rush the Camino. I follow the road to Roncesvalles. Distance is a few additional kms. but the hike is spectacular.
Distance ~ 16 kms on the road. Difficulty 7/10.
