Camino-Portugal – Day # 11 – Padron
< Santiago de Compostela / Caldas de Reis >
Caldas de Reis to Padron
Distance – 19 kms Difficulty 5 /10
Today we start the hike at Caldas de Reis and arrive at Padron. The terrain has some elevation with roads and dirt trails. Padron is way before early medieval times. This is the village where Saint Santiago arrived. There is a church monument worth the visit. As an option, you can have lunch at Padron and then take the Renfe train to Santiago de Compostela. This will give you an extra day during this journey. The closer you get to Santiago de Compostela the more urbanistic & industrial it becomes. Padron is the last Camino village before Santiago de Compostela. The hike between Padron & Santiago de Compostela is long and taking the Renfe train from Padron to Santiago de Compostela is a viable alternative. Don’t forget to stamp your peregrino passport in Padron and wait one full day in Santiago before you stamp your passport again if you take the Renfe train. There are several private albergues and good restaurants in Padron.
