Viana
The hike today starts at Los Arcos and reaches the Village of Viana. This is an early medieval village established by Rey Sancho VI [ buried in Roncesvalles ]. The terrain is fairly flat after leaving Los Arcos. The towns of Sansol & Torres del Rio are a few kms away from Los Arcos. Torres del Rio is a good morning stop. There is a Templar church located here. After leaving Torres del Rio, the terrain now has hills. The entrance to Viana follows the highway. Viana is one of my preferred villages in the Camino. The albergue is at the other end of the village on the hilltop. There is a magnificent view of the valley & the mountains near the albergue.
Next to the albergue is a large church in ruin that was bombed during the civil war. Viana has great restaurants, and is very vibrant. This village is the last of Navarra. The next region is La Rioja [ Logroño ]. Viana is barely 12 kms from Logroño and it has always been a must stay.
Los Arcos to Viana is approximately 18 kms. Terrain is mostly flat to Torres del Rio. The terrain has hills after Torres del Rio. Difficulty 6/10.
